Task

Article 4 of the decree establishing the SARiV describes its task as follows:
 

1. give advice on the direction of foreign policy, international trade, development cooperation and tourism on its own initiative or upon request;
2. contribute to the development of a policy on foreign affairs, international trade, development cooperation, tourism and international communication;
3. track and interpret social developments in the field of international affairs, political and economic bilateral and multilateral relations between Flanders and its partners, the European Union, international trade, development cooperation and tourism;
4. give advice on proposed draft decrees concerning the regulation of foreign policy, international trade, development cooperation and tourism;
5. on its own initiative or upon request give advice on draft decrees concerning the regulation of foreign policy, international trade, development cooperation and tourism;
6. on its own initiative or upon request give advice on draft decisions of the Flemish Government concerning foreign policy, international trade, development cooperation and tourism;
7. reflect on policy papers on foreign policy, international trade, development cooperation and tourism submitted to the Flemish Parliament;
8. on its own initiative or upon request give advice on draft cooperation agreements which the Flemish Community or the Flemish Region intends to contract with the State or with other communities and regions;
9. on its own initiative or upon request give advice on policy, and policies and regulations in preparation at the level of the European Union, as well as on international treaties in preparation.
